Diabetic children face many challenges on a daily basis: insulin injections, frequent daily blood sugar tests, adhering to scheduled diets, and knowing that a low or high blood sugar reaction could happen at any time. It is imperative children learn how to keep food, insulin and exercise levels in balance while they are young in order to prevent complications as they advance into adulthood. We, at Camp Casey, strive to help them accomplish this through fun and educational activities!
Our medical staff conducts daily educational sessions to encourage and teach children the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. The staff includes a pediatric endocrinologist, a diabetes educator and counselor, an audiologist, optometrist, podiatrist, dietician and nurses experienced in diabetes. Each staff member presents a fun and motivational class in his or her area of expertise. The classes are taught with hands-on learning techniques to help each child integrate these skills into their daily lives.
Daily Exercises and Activities
Physical exercise is a basic element of the health and well-being for all children, especially those with diabetes. Camp Casey offers a variety of physical activities in the beauty of Oak Creek Canyon showing campers that living a healthy lifestyle can be fun.
